Since we apparently aren’t having a winter season this year, let’s enjoy the outdoors! If we are going to have to hear about a drought for the foreseeable future, might as well make sure you get your farmers tan on! Here is hand selected compilation of the happenings the Spectafy team is most excited about for February 2015.
Make sure you download the Spectafy app for Android or iOS and see what’s going down before you head out!
SF Beer Week
Who doesn’t love beer? February 6th-15th is SF Beer Week, so do yourself a favor and scope out the website to find out which events sound the best to you. There is too much awesome stuff going on and too many great local and craft breweries involved to give the lowdown here. You’ll find me at 21st Amendment, although that’s true pretty much all the time…IPA or die! There’s tons of fun stuff, including a kick off GALA, lots of Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, and Dogfish Head sponsored events around town, and a beer and dodge ball tourney in Berkeley on the 7th.
FREE Admission at the Exploratorium for Groundhog Day!
There are six days per year that you can get in to the Exploratorium for free (well, legally), and Sunday, February 1st is one of them. Tucked between the Ferry Building and Pier 39, the Exploratorium’s mission is to “change the way the world learns”. It is full of hands-on exhibits, from blowing giant soap bubbles to challenging your senses by trying to find your way through a maze in absolute darkness. The Exploratorium is a must for anyone with kids, anyone who is a kid at heart, or anyone who just loves learning and playing. All of this tucked into a state of the art facility that is energy neutral (actually, the building will generate some energy for the rest of us this year). What better place could there be to see if Phil sees his shadow??
Giants Fan Fest
On Saturday, February 7th, head over to AT&T Park to celebrate the 2015 Giants season at Fan Fest! You will have a chance to meet the players, eat some garlic-laden grub, and get your picture taken with the World Series trophies. Gates open at 10 am, and entry is free. A great chance to pick up some swag before opening day, which is April 13th!
If you like comedy, you gotta check out SF Sketchfest. It’s a 2-week event that runs until February 8th, and features a ton of popular and new-to-the-scene comedians. There will be theatrical and television events, stand-up acts, debates, game shows, and lots more at venues like the Fillmore, Cal Academy of Science, the Castro, and more! See you there for some laughs!
Wayne Brady of Who’s Line is it Anyway and Let’s Make a Deal fame (and tons of other stuff) will be at Feinsteins at Hotel Nikko February 6-8th. Neil Degrasse Tyson, a popular “advocate of science”, will be at the Orpheum Theatre on February 10-11th to boggle your mind and expand your imagination! The live music selection this month is a little…lacking….but we will be back with suggestions for March!
Check “trending” in the Spectafy App to see what’s going on around the city, and we hope to see you out there exploring your world!
